You can never go home again.

It’s true. Everything changes while you are gone, and if it doesn’t, you do.

In my case it’s a little bit of both. I have changed a lot in the two years since I have lived in Colorado, and Colorado has changed too. The Village Inns where I spent my youth are closed, and the dark, dank one we never entered has been remodeled in a mod-70’s style that jars with the mediocre eating experience I associate with VI. Half the bars I drank at have been replaced with Health food restaurants, and there are new buildings poking up all over the skyline.

It’s almost like moving to a whole new place, but bringing most of your friends and family with you.

Of course, they have all changed too, so it’s almost as if my friends were abducted by aliens or taken over by pod creatures. They look like my friends, they sound like my friends, but like me, they have changed. I think I will have to feel things out a bit, before this home starts to feel fully homey.

In the meantime, I inexplicably miss New Jersey. After founding the “we hate Jersey” club, here I am missing the accents, the food, the trees, the produce, the shore, the people, the townships and boro’s.

Am I just unhappy wherever or does NJ get under your skin a little? Hopefully the latter.

I am still unpacking boxes and trying to get settled in, but things are getting better. We have a table to eat at now, a couch to sit on, and a t.v. to watch. We have dishes to eat off of, a coffee maker, and several bottles of wine. Life is getting livable.

  1. OMG! You’re back in CO! Woot 🙂

We just got back from our vacation (I went 9 withdrawal filled days without computer access), otherwise I would have pestered you earlier.

I just went to the “new” VI over there last night… definitely weird… same people (including most of the staff), but different restaurant. It was odd. I think it’ll take some time to get used to.

Shoot me an email sometime for coffee. I’m currently working the weekend grave shift, but will be going back to the M-F swing shift again in a few weeks.

    Welcome back 🙂

  2. I am not sad to be back Hatchet!! I am happy to be back, I am just missing NJ a bit ( of all places).

And it is definitely not the hair!

  3. Give it time, Mama. You definitely changed and grew in the last two years, just like the rest of us… Eventually you’ll be back on the same page as your friends and family ~ changing and growing together rather than thousands of miles apart.

I think I’d be missing the ocean, too ~ you did happen to come home to a crazy heat wave! The beach sounds perfect right about now!

Hang in there, kiddo. It’ll get better…

  4. Many many hugs. May the un-packing go swiftly and easily, hon. Let me know when you’re ready for those dacquiris on my back porch.
