Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

What are we doing this lovey day of love? Well, we are sitting at home with about 4 inches of wet ice/snow accumulating on our streets and sidewalks. Monkey’s school is closed today, which I think is silly as the roads seem to be just wet and gloppy.

Of course, I come from a land where the school didn’t close unless there were multiple feet of snow on the ground, so that may be the difference. (There was a pole in the courtyard of our school, if it was covered, they would close, otherwise, wear boots.)

Here they are closed today, when the worst thing I can say about the “snowfall” is that it is really wet and yucky. It actually looks more like slushy or icee fall, than snowfall.

Lee went to work, sadly, so Monkey and I are here, with our pile of healthy fruit kabob mixins and our holiday cheer. We are both wearing red or pink, and are ready to celebrate the day. Which we will do later but eating heart shaped peanut butter and honey sandwhiches and playing a reading game or two.

A Happy VDAY to all of you, if anyone wants to have some political fun this day, visit the Vagina Monologues, or see if anyone is doing a performance of them today, they are an amazing production, and are often performed around this time of year.

Vday

Valentine’s Day…

So the kids are having a Valentine’s day party at school, which means another day where the busy parents at Red Bank Primary all race to the store the night before the holiday and purchase 24 sugary cupcake treats for the kids to hand out, along with candy valentines.

Halloween saw 5 cupcakes per kid, full size ones, it was obscene!! I have never seen so much sugar in one place at the same time. The teacher didn’t even hand out everything that was brought, for example, there were so many sweet baked goods that the teacher never handed out any of the candy. In fact, she still has most of it in her class goody closet.

What’s worse is that there is a celebration in her class at least once, often twice a month. So these kids are getting an insane amount of sweets with surprising regularity.

We will be facing the sweetened abundance this wednesday at the next holiday school event. I want to bring something healthy for a snack, something that will at least provide a solid basis of blood sugar to help their little bodies absorb the sugar to come.

Anyone have any thoughts as to recipes? Monkey is bringing little stretchy dinosaurs in lieu of valentines so we have that covered, but I need to find a healthy, easy to make snack, preferably with protein in it.

Help!!

Stamping it up…

The power of stamps…

I went to a Stamp It! party with some friends this weekend and oh the possibilities!! I want to hand design my own cards, wrapping paper, scrapbook pages, whatever!

Amy threw the party, and we made little chocolate labels and treat bags, which is a wonderful ides for party favors and one I wish I had thought of for my Denver Baby Shower, I may see if I can borrow her stamps and make some for the shower here! They were a lot of fun and very cute.

I ended up buying their watercolor pencils and a few stamp sets, mainly becuase I have been looking to replace my watercolor pencils forever and these were actually reasonable. They also have blending pens that give you alot more control than water and paintbrushes.

I was impressed with all their goodies though, they even have a watermark stamp, that works on every color of paper. I am investigating having a stamp made with my business logo and using the watermark to authenticate paperwork.

It is rare when my Law School OCD and my personal creative inner beast get to play together!!
